Collaborative Law
Collaborative Law is a legal process enabling couples who have decided to separate or end their marriage to work with their collaborative professionals including collaboratively trained lawyers, coaches and financial professionals in order to avoid the uncertain outcome of court and to achieve a settlement that best meets the specific needs of both parties and their children without the underlying threat of litigation.
The process is a voluntary process and the parties are at the center of decision-making, so the impact is as positive as possible. Planning for their future, including addressing all aspects, are all considered. More often than not, the traditional aspects of a lawsuit can be costly, and the court-imposed deadlines can be a burden. Under Collaborative Law, the same procedural rules do not apply. In a collaborative case, the court removes the case from the Courts docket. The case is still active, but it is no longer subject to the court’s timelines. This gives the parties the ability to set their own deadlines and rules to create a much more customized divorce process.
